Where Mission is a Way of Life
Red Bird Mission Red Bird Mission, a non-profit agency located in the Appalachian mountains of Southeastern Kentucky, empowers individuals and advocates justice by providing educational, health and community outreach ministries to area low-income residents. Red Bird Mission and Clinic have been providing ministries in this region since 1921. Today the need remains critical in this isolated rural area. Chronic poverty, lack of jobs, poor housing and rugged terrain provide obstacles to a fuller life for area residents. Red Bird Mission and Clinic strives to meet these needs through ministry in five areas: Education, Health and Wellness, Community Outreach, Economic Opportunity and Community Housing Improvement. Red Bird Mission Work Camp Opportunity- October 13-19, 2013
Red Bird Mission offers a work opportunity for volunteers in mission as they provide home repair for low-income community residents. The mission experience covers five days and six nights, beginning Sunday evening and ending Saturday morning. Workers stay in climate-controlled cabins set up as bunk houses or private rooms that accommodate 2-3 people (available for an additional fee). Meals are shared in the dining hall.
You will be provided an opportunity to use your gifts to serve and to sense the love of God that covers us all. The team will be led by Dave Martin, so you know it will be a lot of fun, too! Cost is $350; mission funds are available to help defray expenses. If you are interested in joining the team, please contact Dave at 317-804-9779. Twenty-four spots are reserved for our team and will be filled first-come, first-served.
St. Mark's supports Red Bird in many ways throughout the year. Contact Liz Rix, 317-846-4912, for more information.
